Key results
Kioxia reported first-half FY2027 revenue of ¥4.2472 trillion, up 436.8% year on year. Operating profit was ¥3.2647 trillion and net income attributable to owners of the parent was ¥2.1979 trillion. Operating profit increased by ¥3.1339 trillion from a year earlier, while net income rose by ¥2.1389 trillion.
- Demand and selling prices: Data-center demand was strong, particularly for servers used in AI applications, and average selling prices rose sharply.
- Shipments: Shipments measured by memory capacity also increased, boosting revenue and profit.
- Foreign exchange: The average U.S. dollar rate weakened to ¥160 from ¥146 a year earlier, providing a tailwind.
- Temporary profit headwinds: Kioxia recorded ¥36.6 billion in litigation loss provisions, as well as share-based compensation expenses.
AI demand and higher prices drove the profit surge, marking a sharp recovery from the downturn a year earlier. Non-GAAP operating profit was ¥3.3145 trillion, above IFRS operating profit, but this is a company-defined adjusted measure that is not subject to auditor review. Investors should also consider the effects of temporary expenses and review the IFRS figures.
- Operating profit¥3,134bn
- Net income¥2,139bn
- Revenue¥3,456bn
Business-line performance
Kioxia operates as a single memory business segment and does not disclose profit by reportable segment in its earnings release. The breakdown below is by product end use, not by business segment.
| Revenue by end use | FY2027 first half (¥100 million) | Year-earlier period (¥100 million) | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSD and storage | 27,907 | 4,620 | +504.1% |
| Smart devices | 13,145 | 2,363 | +456.3% |
| Other | 1,419 | 928 | +52.9% |
SSD and storage includes products such as SSDs for PCs, data centers and enterprise customers. Expanding demand for servers used in generative AI lifted both selling prices and shipment volumes, making this the main driver of revenue growth.
Smart devices includes memory embedded in smartphones, tablets, vehicles and industrial equipment. Revenue grew sharply from a year earlier, though Kioxia said demand for smartphones and PCs is showing signs of slowing. As demand diverges across end uses, data-center growth is supporting the business overall.
- SSD and storage+504.1%
- Smart devices+456.3%
- Other+52.9%
Outlook
Kioxia did not provide a full-year forecast for FY2027, but released an outlook for the third quarter, covering October to December 2026. Compared with the second-quarter results, the company expects a slight increase in revenue and operating profit to remain almost flat.
| Metric | Q1 actual | Q2 actual | Q3 outlook |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (¥100 million) | 17,671 | 24,800 | 25,000 (up 0.8% quarter on quarter) |
| Operating profit (¥100 million) | 12,700 | 19,947 | 19,950 (up 0.0% quarter on quarter) |
| Net income attributable to owners of the parent (¥100 million) | 8,422 | 13,557 | 13,600 (up 0.3% quarter on quarter) |
| Average U.S. dollar exchange rate (yen) | 160 | 161 | 157 |
Kioxia expects data-center demand to remain strong, while a move toward a stronger yen is expected to constrain growth. The company has not provided a comparable disclosure on changes to its full-year forecast, so the third-quarter outlook alone does not determine how the year will end. Kioxia also omitted its annual plan and progress toward it, citing the memory market's potential to change significantly over a short period.
Financial position and capital allocation
Total assets at the end of the first half rose ¥2.1938 trillion from the end of the previous fiscal year to ¥5.8839 trillion. The equity ratio attributable to owners of the parent increased to 49.8% from 37.9%. The recovery strengthened the balance sheet, while Kioxia directed funds toward share buybacks and debt repayment.
| Item | FY2027 first half | Comparison / details |
|---|---|---|
| Equity ratio attributable to owners of the parent | 49.8% | Up 11.9 percentage points from previous fiscal year-end |
| Cash flow from operating activities | ¥2.3796 trillion | Inflow of ¥175.2 billion a year earlier |
| Cash flow from investing activities | Minus ¥193.0 billion | Includes acquisition of Nanya Technology shares |
| Cash flow from financing activities | Minus ¥1.2574 trillion | Includes share buybacks and debt repayment |
| Interim dividend | ¥90 per share | Amount before the stock split; no dividend a year earlier |
The sharp rise in operating cash flow reflected higher profit before tax. Kioxia spent about ¥800.3 billion on share buybacks and also repaid long-term borrowings. It paid an interim dividend but did not provide an annual dividend forecast, including the year-end payment. The company split each share into three on Oct. 1, 2026, so the interim dividend is stated on a pre-split basis.
Risks and challenges
AI data-center demand is expanding rapidly, but the semiconductor memory market is prone to short-term swings in demand and prices. Whether strong results can continue will depend on changes in reliance on specific end markets, foreign exchange and supply conditions.
- Demand volatility: Demand for smartphones and PCs is showing signs of slowing. If data-center demand falls short of expectations, shipment volumes and average selling prices could decline, weighing on profit.
- Foreign-exchange swings: Kioxia assumes an average U.S. dollar rate of ¥157 in the third quarter, stronger than the ¥161 rate in the second quarter. If exchange rates move more than expected, revenue and profit could differ from the outlook.
- Competition and market conditions: Kioxia cites intense competition in the semiconductor industry and uncertainty about market demand as risks. Falling memory prices or fiercer competition could weaken profit growth.
- Geopolitics and the global economy: Geopolitical risks involving the Middle East and Ukraine persist, while investment and personal consumption remain weak in emerging economies. Economic or supply-chain changes could affect customer demand.

The results highlight how strong demand for memory used in AI servers, together with higher selling prices, boosted not only revenue but also profit. With demand from smartphones and PCs slowing, data centers have become the main growth driver, an important shift for investors to track.
How long the memory-price upturn will last remains uncertain, and Kioxia has not issued a full-year forecast. The company expects profit to be broadly flat in the third quarter, so investors will want to watch not only demand but also exchange rates and selling prices in the next earnings report.
