Up to ¥200bn buyback through TSE market purchases
Mitsubishi Electric will buy back up to 80 million common shares for a maximum of ¥200 billion. The cap represents 3.91% of issued shares excluding treasury stock, and the purchase period runs from Nov. 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
- Purchase method: Market purchases on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
- Basis for resolution: Article 459, Paragraph 1 of the Companies Act and the company's articles of incorporation.
Mitsubishi Electric cited stronger shareholder returns and improved capital efficiency as its aims. The limits do not guarantee the company will purchase the full number of shares or spend the full amount. Actual results will depend on purchases made during the period.
Share cancellation approved on the same day
Mitsubishi Electric will cancel 23 million common shares on Nov. 30, 2026. The number represents 1.09% of issued shares before the cancellation.
- Basis for cancellation: Article 178 of the Companies Act.
- Treasury shares: Mitsubishi Electric held 66,321,482 treasury shares as of Sept. 30, 2026, including shares held in BIP and ESOP trusts.
A share cancellation removes shares held by a company from its issued share count. Mitsubishi Electric approved the buyback and cancellation as part of the same capital policy, but the cancellation itself does not increase operating profit.

The ¥200 billion buyback ceiling signals a substantial shareholder-return program, but investors should distinguish the authorized maximum from the amount actually spent. Canceling shares reduces the number outstanding, but does not by itself indicate profit growth. Investors will be watching the pace of purchases and how Mitsubishi Electric balances shareholder returns with growth investment. Actual buyback spending and capital allocation are key points to monitor.
