Misumi Group has resolved to establish a $50 million corporate venture capital fund in the United States, with plans to invest in robotics and industrial AI startups. The initiative aims to accelerate growth in the American market and build new revenue streams for next-generation manufacturing.
Misumi Group intends to establish early collaborations with high-growth US startups in fields including robotics, aerospace (including eVTOLs), advanced medical technology, clean energy, industrial automation, and industrial AI. This strategy seeks to generate synergies between these investments and Misumi's existing machine part sales, procurement services, and development prototyping support. By expanding its customer base in the US market quickly, the company aims to drive sales growth in its American operations, contributing to overall global business expansion and enterprise value enhancement.
This fund is designed to secure a competitive advantage in cutting-edge technology areas, moving beyond traditional component supply chains. By investing in promising startups centered on frontier hardware and industrial AI, Misumi plans to accelerate innovation within its own business. While the company has long held a strong position in the B2B market, customer needs are shifting from simple part procurement to holistic system solutions driven by digital transformation (DX) and automation. The US market serves as a hub for these cutting-edge technologies, and partnering with local startups allows Misumi to broaden its portfolio of future M&A opportunities and joint developments, ensuring long-term diversification and revenue sources.
The new fund, named MISUMI Venture Capital Fund I, LP (commonly referred to as the MVC Fund), will be established as a limited partnership under Delaware state law. Scheduled for launch in October 2026, the fund targets strategic investments in promising startups within next-generation manufacturing ecosystems centered on frontier hardware, robotics, and industrial AI.
MISUMI Investment USA Corporation (MIUC), Misumi's US subsidiary, will serve as the sole limited partner, contributing 100% of the capital. The total scale of the fund is set at $50 million, with contributions expected to be fully deployed by the final year of operations in September 2036. The general partner will be MVC Fund I GP, LLC, led by Zhongquan (Eddie) Chen. The management company is MISUMI Ventures, LLC, also under Chen's representation. MIUC will retain substantial control over the fund while leveraging an external professional management structure to select and support portfolio companies.

By leveraging its distribution network to accelerate M&A and partnerships in advanced technology, the company appears committed to transforming from a mere supplier into a platform enterprise. Market observers should closely monitor the synergies generated with its investment targets.
