AGC's first-half revenue rose 10.6% to ¥1.1 trillion, operating profit climbed 19.7% to ¥64.6 billion, and net profit soared 155.4% to ¥35.5 billion, helped by a recovery in glass and electronics. The company kept its full-year forecast unchanged and maintained its ¥210 annual dividend.
Performance Highlights
AGC's revenue for the first half climbed 10.6% year-on-year to ¥1,100.6 billion, while operating profit rose 19.7% to ¥64.6 billion. Pre-tax income jumped 78.8% to ¥60.3 billion, and net profit attributable to parent shareholders surged 155.4% to ¥35.5 billion, achieving double-digit profit growth at all levels. The operating margin widened to 5.9% from 5.4% a year earlier.
The strong performance was driven primarily by a demand recovery and price adjustments in architectural and automotive glass, and an improving market environment in electronics. Profitability was further boosted by the absence of an approximately ¥12 billion impairment loss at AGC Biologics that had burdened the prior-year period. Although raw material and energy costs remained elevated, the impact was offset by selling price pass-throughs and cost reductions, while currency effects were limited.
Segment Performance
Architectural Glass benefited from recovering new-build and renovation demand in Europe and Asia, with solid shipments of flat and processed glass and the impact of price corrections driving both revenue and profit higher. Automotive Glass rode the expansion in global vehicle production, with strong sales of high-value laminated and coated glass lifting margins.
Electronics saw display glass substrates gain from an improving market, with both volumes and prices exceeding prior-year levels; semiconductor-related materials also enjoyed firm data center demand, resulting in a sharp profit increase.
Chemicals maintained profitability in a generally sluggish market, supported by functional chemicals and fluoroproducts, with steady cost management offsetting raw material price volatility.
Life Science recorded a substantial improvement in operating profit, largely reflecting the absence of the previous year's impairment loss at the contract biopharmaceutical manufacturing subsidiary; revenue also grew steadily on the back of progress in pharmaceutical intermediate and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing contracts.

Financial Position and Capital Policy
Total assets rose ¥56.2 billion from end-2025 to ¥3,006.2 billion; equity attributable to owners of the parent stood at ¥1,528.3 billion, pushing the equity ratio to 50.8% from 50.3%. Interest-bearing debt remained nearly flat, keeping the balance sheet healthy.
Operating cash flow expanded on higher pre-tax profit, and free cash flow stayed positive despite ongoing capital expenditure and R&D spending. The company maintained a disciplined capital allocation, paying dividends and repaying debt.
For shareholder returns, the annual dividend was kept at ¥210 per share (¥105 interim, ¥105 planned year-end). No share buyback was announced, underscoring a focus on stable dividends. Market attention now turns to the scope for future dividend hikes, should full-year targets be met.
Full-Year Outlook
AGC left its full-year 2026 consolidated forecasts unchanged:
| (¥ million) | Previous Forecast | Revised Forecast | FY2025 Actual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | 2,200,000 | 2,200,000 | 2,057,853 |
| Operating Profit | 150,000 | 150,000 | 127,413 |
| Net Profit Attributable to Parent | 77,000 | 77,000 | 69,167 |
The mid-year results suggest a conservative stance, possibly incorporating assumptions of currency volatility and global economic uncertainty in the second half. AGC sees underlying demand as firm across its businesses, but has set conservative foreign exchange assumptions.
