Seven Bank's Q1 FY2027 ordinary profit surged 63.4% to 10,802 million yen on higher ATM usage and lower depreciation. Revenue rose 6.6% to 56,851 million yen, and net profit advanced 57.1% to 6,582 million yen. It raised full-year forecasts.
Performance Highlights
Seven Bank reported Q1 FY2027 ordinary revenue of 56,851 million yen, up 6.6% YoY, while ordinary profit surged 63.4% to 10,802 million yen and net profit rose 57.1% to 6,582 million yen, marking a sharp increase in both revenue and profit. The jump in ordinary profit was fueled by higher domestic ATM transaction volumes and a 1,077 million yen reduction in depreciation expenses following the transition to fourth-generation ATMs. Reflecting the strong start, the bank raised its full-year profit forecasts: ordinary profit is now seen at 33,500 million yen (+11.0% YoY) and net profit at 20,000 million yen (+48.4% YoY).
Segment Performance
Seven Bank operates three segments: Domestic Business (Banking and Other), Credit Card & E-money Business, and International Business.
| Segment | Ordinary Revenue (¥mn) | Ordinary Profit (¥mn) | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic Business (Banking & Other) | 38,457 | 9,721 | 25.3% |
| Credit Card & E-money | 6,656 | -57 | -0.9% |
| International Business | 12,055 | 1,184 | 9.8% |
The Domestic Business saw ATM installations rise 1.8% YoY to 28,614 units, while transactions per machine grew 1.0% to 110.5, pushing total ATM transactions up 2.9% to 2,086 million. ATM fee income grew 3.9% to 30,037 million yen, and combined with the depreciation tailwind, segment profit soared 44.5% YoY. Deposits from individuals reached 642.9 billion yen (+5.1%), and loans grew to 83.1 billion yen (+25.8%).
The Credit Card & E-money segment struggled: card shopping volume fell 2.3% to 188.8 billion yen and e-money transaction volume dropped 9.9% to 343.2 billion yen. A 923 million yen impairment loss on system assets added to the pressure, resulting in a segment loss of 57 million yen (improved from a 370 million yen loss a year earlier).
International Business posted a strong performance, driven by the U.S. FCTI network, where ATM count jumped 29.2% to 10,845 units, along with growth in the Philippines (4,104 units, +12.6%) and Malaysia (126 units, +125%). Segment ordinary revenue rose 14.6% to 12,055 million yen, and ordinary profit swung to a profit of 1,184 million yen from 269 million yen a year earlier.
| Segment | Revenue | Share | Op. Profit | Op. Margin |

Financial Position and Capital Policy
Total assets at the end of Q1 stood at 1,572.0 billion yen, up 26.3 billion yen from the previous fiscal year-end, mainly due to higher ATM temporary advances (+30.1 billion yen) and investment securities (+14.4 billion yen), partially offset by a decline in cash and deposits (-27.3 billion yen). Liabilities increased to 1,285.5 billion yen on deposit growth (+17.8 billion yen), while net assets were largely flat at 286.4 billion yen, with an equity ratio of 17.8%. The bank plans to maintain an annual dividend of 11.00 yen per share (5.50 yen interim and 5.50 yen year-end), unchanged from the previous year. No share buybacks or dividend increases were announced this quarter, but the solid capital position supports expectations for ongoing shareholder returns.
Risks and Challenges
The earnings report highlighted several risks in an uncertain operating environment:
- Long-term decline in cash demand due to the advance of cashless payments; the bank is countering via its "+Connect" ATM service platform.
- Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and financial market volatility that could impact international business earnings.
- Intensifying competition in the credit card business, as reflected by the decline in usage and the impairment charge.
- Rising interest rates pushing up deposit funding costs; Q1 deposit interest expenses surged 83% YoY to 630 million yen.
Structural challenges in the Credit Card & E-money segment in particular make a portfolio review a key focus ahead.
Full-Year Outlook
Seven Bank raised its fiscal-year forecasts from the May 2026 estimates. The company now projects ordinary revenue of 235,500 million yen (+7.0% YoY), ordinary profit of 33,500 million yen (+11.0%), and net profit of 20,000 million yen (+48.4%). The high net profit growth partly reflects a normalization of tax expenses and reduced extraordinary losses from the previous year.
| Item | Revised FY2027 Forecast | Previous Year Actual |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Revenue (¥mn) | 235,500 | ~220,130 |
| Ordinary Profit (¥mn) | 33,500 | ~30,170 |
| Net Income (¥mn) | 20,000 | ~13,480 |
Downside risks include currency fluctuations and heightened competition.
Analyst take
The sharp first-quarter profit gain was helped by a one-time reduction in depreciation, but the core ATM business remains solid and international expansion is promising. Weakness in credit cards and e-money is a concern, and the lofty 48% net profit growth target for the year warrants close monitoring.
