Sales forecast raised, but profit outlook lowered
Okinawa Electric expects sales to rise, while operating profit and net profit are forecast to fall below both the previous outlook and the prior-year results.
| Consolidated | Previous forecast | Revised forecast | Prior-year results |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales (¥bn) | 238.8 | 244.6 | 220.18 |
| Operating profit (¥bn) | 7.4 | 5.0 | 9.29 |
| Ordinary profit (¥bn) | 5.0 | 3.2 | 8.17 |
| Net profit (¥bn) | 3.4 | 1.9 | 6.23 |
| Earnings per share (¥) | 62.60 | 34.98 | 114.78 |
Against the previous forecast, sales are up 2.4%, while operating profit is down 32.4%, ordinary profit is down 36.0% and net profit is down 44.1%. The revised profit forecasts are also all below the prior-year results.
Higher fuel costs and typhoon damage weigh on earnings
Okinawa Electric has factored in higher fuel and purchased-power costs, as well as increased repair and labor expenses related to typhoons.
- Sales driver: Electricity charges are expected to rise, partly because of the fuel-cost adjustment system.
- Pressure on profit: Higher fuel prices are expected to increase fuel expenses and the cost of power purchased from other companies.
- Additional costs: Typhoons are expected to lift repair and labor expenses.
| Key forecast assumptions | Previous forecast | Revised forecast |
|---|---|---|
| Crude oil CIF price ($/barrel) | 83 | 96 |
| Coal CIF price ($/ton) | 131 | 137 |
| Exchange rate (¥/$) | 159 | 158 |
The fuel-cost adjustment system contributes to higher sales, but rising fuel prices also push up expenses. Okinawa Electric said these cost increases, along with typhoon-related spending, make it difficult to translate the higher sales outlook into stronger profit.
Standalone earnings also set to decline, dividend unchanged
Okinawa Electric has lowered its standalone profit forecasts but left its dividend outlook unchanged.
| Standalone | Previous forecast | Revised forecast | Prior-year results |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales (¥bn) | 222.0 | 227.5 | 207.58 |
| Operating profit (¥bn) | 4.7 | 2.1 | 5.63 |
| Ordinary profit (¥bn) | 3.0 | 1.0 | 4.84 |
| Net profit (¥bn) | 2.5 | 0.9 | 4.25 |
| Earnings per share (¥) | 46.03 | 16.57 | 78.16 |
Compared with the previous forecast, standalone sales are set to rise 2.5%, while operating profit is projected to fall 55.3%, ordinary profit 66.7% and net profit 64.0%. For both consolidated and standalone results, the sales outlook and profit outlook are moving in opposite directions. The dividend forecast is unchanged.

Investors will be watching how much higher fuel prices and typhoon-related costs show up in coming quarterly results. Okinawa Electric’s assumptions put crude oil and coal CIF prices above their previous levels, while the exchange-rate assumption shifts slightly toward a stronger yen. The key question is how far higher electricity charges can offset rising costs: sales growth alone may not signal a recovery in profit. The dividend forecast is unchanged, but investors will also need to track actual results against the reduced earnings outlook.
