Sankyu’s FY2027 first-half revenue fell 2.2% year on year to ¥308.7 billion, while operating profit rose 3.9% to ¥21.3 billion and net profit attributable to owners of parent climbed 29.6% to ¥17.5 billion. Revenue declined, but the company still delivered operating profit growth, and net profit growth far outpaced it.

|---|---|---|
| Revenue | -6,810 | -2.2% |
| Operating profit | +804 | +3.9% |
| Ordinary profit | +1,368 | +6.7% |

Pricing revisions and cost reductions in China supported profitability in the logistics business. Interim net profit also benefited from extraordinary gains, including ¥3.2 billion from the sale of cross-shareholdings and ¥1.3 billion from the liquidation of a subsidiary. Investors should therefore distinguish recurring profit improvements from one-off gains rather than treating the sharp rise in net profit as a direct measure of underlying earnings growth.
Performance by business segment
The logistics business grew both revenue and profit, while the plant engineering business saw declines in both. Operating profit rose 29.3% year on year in logistics, while it fell 2.2% in plant engineering and 14.3% in Other.
Logistics revenue increased 4.2% year on year. Although domestic sea container volumes fell, higher export and warehouse activity, pricing revisions and the start of new work supported results. Cost reductions in China and contract renewals for overseas on-site work also improved profitability.
Plant engineering revenue declined 7.8% year on year. Work on domestic steel, chemical and environmental facilities decreased, while overseas EV-related projects completed in the previous fiscal year dropped out. Higher volumes of major scheduled maintenance work in Japan and contributions from a newly consolidated subsidiary provided some support, but did not offset the decline in overseas projects.
Other revenue fell 5.9% year on year as equipment rentals for steel and chemical plant sites decreased, with profit also below the year-earlier level. Improved logistics margins supported overall operating profit growth, while the timing of plant work and the fading contribution of overseas projects continued to shape results.

Dividend figures use different per-share bases before and after the stock split. Taking into account the five-for-one split effective in October 2026, the annual dividend forecast is ¥264 on a pre-split basis, up from ¥246 in the previous fiscal year. The forecast for the year-end dividend after the split is ¥27 per share and cannot simply be added to the interim dividend of ¥129 on a pre-split basis. The split is intended to lower the investment amount per unit, broaden the investor base and improve share liquidity.
Full-year outlook
Sankyu left its consolidated forecast for FY2027 unchanged, projecting revenue of ¥638.5 billion, operating profit of ¥47.0 billion and net profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥33.0 billion. The company expects year-on-year growth of 1.1%, 8.7% and 4.7%, respectively.
| Metric | Previous forecast | Current forecast | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ¥638.5 billion | ¥638.5 billion | +1.1% |
| Operating profit | ¥47.0 billion | ¥47.0 billion | +8.7% |
| Net profit attributable to owners of parent | ¥33.0 billion | ¥33.0 billion | +4.7% |
First-half revenue was below the year-earlier level, but Sankyu maintained its consolidated forecast, citing improved logistics profitability and resilient demand for domestic facility maintenance and related work. It revised its non-consolidated forecasts to revenue of ¥441.2 billion, ordinary profit of ¥35.8 billion and net profit of ¥27.7 billion. The unchanged group outlook contrasts with a more cautious view of conditions at the parent company.
Risks and challenges
Domestic facility maintenance demand and logistics pricing revisions are providing support, but results remain exposed to external conditions and the timing of project work. Key issues to watch, based on the market environment and business structure identified by the company, include:
- China’s slowing economy: Weak housing sales and consumer spending could continue to weigh on Japanese companies’ production and sales, as well as logistics demand.
- Middle East tensions and inflation: Regional instability and rising prices could dampen consumption and logistics activity, while also affecting transportation and operating costs.
- Volatility in plant projects: Domestic facility upgrades and decarbonization-related work are between project cycles. The timing and scale of jobs, along with the fading of previous overseas EV-related projects, will affect plant engineering revenue.
- Declines in overseas maintenance work: The end of overseas projects and work could make it harder to sustain the contribution from major scheduled maintenance in Japan and a newly consolidated subsidiary.
- One-off profit factors: Gains from the sale of cross-shareholdings helped lift interim net profit. Investors will need to monitor operating profit and segment margins to assess whether core earnings growth can continue.

Sankyu managed to increase operating profit despite lower revenue, suggesting that logistics pricing revisions and cost controls are working. But the gap between businesses is widening: logistics is growing, while plant engineering is feeling the effects of a lull in facility projects and the loss of overseas work completed in the previous fiscal year.
Interim net profit growth includes gains from the sale of cross-shareholdings and other items. Investors should look beyond whether Sankyu meets its full-year forecast and track underlying earnings excluding extraordinary gains. For job seekers, the company’s mix of logistics, plant engineering and maintenance operations in Japan and overseas offers a useful view of both its strengths and its exposure to different economic and project cycles.
