Sanwa lowers FY2027 operating profit target
Sanwa revised the operating profit target in its midterm business plan covering fiscal 2025 through fiscal 2027. The FY2027 consolidated operating profit target is now ¥82bn to ¥85bn, down from ¥95bn.
| Metric | Previous target (¥bn) | Supplementary plan target (¥bn) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2027 consolidated operating profit | 95 | 82-85 |
The announcement revises the plan's targets. The materials did not provide actual results or quantify the reasons for the revision. Sanwa identified improving overseas profitability as a central pillar, with plans to improve operations in the Americas and restructure costs.
Americas improvements aim to lift overseas profitability
Sanwa plans to review operations and its cost structure in the Americas to improve the profitability of its overseas business. The supplementary plan also sets out a policy of clarifying issues and countermeasures for each business.
- Americas business: Improve operations
- Cost structure: Restructure costs to improve profitability
- Overseas business overall: Aim to improve profitability
The plan revision pairs a lower operating profit target with measures to improve overseas operations. Whether Sanwa can raise profitability in those businesses through execution will be key to meeting its target.
Sanwa expands shareholder returns while maintaining financial health
Sanwa plans to maintain financial soundness while using an appropriate level of leverage and continuing to direct surplus funds to shareholder returns. The policy combines shareholder returns with efforts to improve capital efficiency.
- Dividends: Target a DOE of 15% starting with the FY2026 year-end dividend
- Share repurchases: Add to the initial plan, with repurchases to be carried out during FY2027
- Capital efficiency: Target ROE of at least 18% under the current plan and at least 20% under the next plan
Sanwa added about ¥60bn to its initial share repurchase plan of about ¥40bn, revising the total for the midterm-plan period to about ¥100bn. With returns rising as profit targets fall, investors will be watching both progress on earnings improvement and how Sanwa balances capital policy with financial soundness.

The key development is Sanwa's decision to lower its operating profit target while raising its dividend benchmark and expanding share repurchases. Higher shareholder returns may be positive for investors, but their sustainability depends on improved overseas profitability. The outlook will hinge on Sanwa's ability to deliver earnings progress alongside increased returns and stronger capital efficiency while preserving financial soundness.
