Canon Inc. (7751) announced on April 1 that it will book a 99.9 billion yen special loss in its non-consolidated financial statements for the second quarter of fiscal 2026, as it absorbs part of its subsidiary Canon Medical Systems. The charge reflects the gap between the net assets inherited and the book value of the subsidiary shares, treated as a loss on extinguishment of subsidiary shares, and has no impact on consolidated results. The amount is nearly half of Canon's prior-year net profit of about 200 billion yen, but it is a temporary accounting adjustment.

Tsuburaya Fields announced on the 27th a special interim dividend of ¥70 per share to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Ultraman. The total payout of ¥4,357 million marks the company's largest dividend ever. With earnings set to exceed initial plans, the move underscores a commitment to boosting shareholder returns.

Tsuburaya Fields (2767) has raised its consolidated earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 and revised its mid-term plan upwards. Boosted by sellouts of pachinko machines and a recovery in the Chinese market, revenue is now seen rising 9.8% to ¥205.3 billion, with operating profit jumping 18.4% to ¥22.5 billion. The upgrades raise expectations for a record-breaking year.

Asahi disclosed a material weakness in internal controls for the fiscal year ending December 2025 after a cyberattack in September 2025 compromised its systems. Attackers gained administrator privileges and deployed ransomware, disrupting access to financial data and forcing the company to delay submission of its securities report. The company assessed that internal controls over Japan region IT operations were ineffective.
